With its convenient location at the base of Beaver Creek Resort ski area, just west of Vail's ski resorts, Avon provides easy access to some of the country's most popular skiing destinations. But Avon's recreational opportunities are not limited to skiing. Nottingham Park, which is bordered by the city's 40,000-square-foot recreation center, is endowed with tennis and basketball courts, a walking and biking path, a playground, picnic tables and barbeque grills. The city has two golf courses and the surrounding mountains and rivers play host to activities ranging from rock climbing to kayaking to hiking. Transportation to the area's many recreation sites is made easy with shuttles that run from Avon to several Vail Valley communities, including Beaver Creek, Vail, Gypsum and Eagle. Accommodations in Avon, which range from bed and breakfasts to vacation home rentals, are available to suit a range of needs and budgets.
